Psychological Safety: The Key to Building High-Performing Teams

  

Harvard business professor Amy Edmonson defines psychological safety as “a team climate characterized by interpersonal trust and mutual respect in which people are comfortable being themselves.” And research shows that creating this environment is one of the single most impactful things that team leaders—or team members—can do to build a high-performing team. 


COURSE OBJECTIVES: In this short but highly interactive course participants will:

  • Learn what psychological safety is and why it’s vital for: nurturing inclusion, retaining talent, countering the self-censoring instinct, and creating high performing, innovative, results-driven teams. 
  • Assess their team’s current level of psychological safety through a short assessment (this can be a self-assessment, or an assessment given to both the leader and his/her team members to help the leader gain more self-awareness and identify areas of needed growth). 
  • Discover the common barriers and challenges that often stops us from fostering a climate of psychological safety on our teams. 
  • Learn five proven strategies and behaviors that will help participants to create an environment of psychological safety on their own teams. This will include special considerations for those working in virtual or remote teams. 
  • Practice key skills learned in the course and set goals for implementing new behaviors to help create this environment on their teams. 


TARGET AUDIENCE: Up to 20 individual contributors, frontline leaders, or senior leaders that want to learn key skills for creating more open and innovative teams.


MODALITY: The course is offered in a 60-minute webinar (for larger audiences), a 90–120-minute instructor led virtual course, or a half day in-person class.
